New produce shop opening at Detroit’s Eastern Market

A produce shop is set to open inside the Gratiot Central Market building in Detroit’s Eastern Market district.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Tuesday morning for Red Truck Fresh Produce.

Organizers say the 2,400-square-foot store will be open six days a week and also will offer locally made food products.

It will be staffed by U.S. military veterans as part of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit’s Operation Good Jobs program.

Eastern Market Corp. President Dan Carmody says the “goal with Red Truck Fresh Produce is to offer healthy produce to complement” the butcher shop offerings at Gratiot Central Market “leading to more balanced meals and a healthier Detroit.”
